Introduction

Osaka City (大阪市:Osaka-shi) is the prefectural capital of Osaka Prefecture and is the third most populous city in Japan.
It is the largest city in western Japan, and is the central city of the Kansai region and the three major metropolitan areas "Kinki Ken".

 

In ancient times, capital cities such as Naniwa Kyo were built.
In the early modern times, Toyotomi Hideyoshi built Osaka Castle and maintained the castle town. During the Edo period, it developed as the economic center.

 

Osaka is famous not only for economy and history but also for food culture.
There are many famous dishes such as Takoyaki, Okonomiyaki and Kushikatsu.

 

In 1970, the World Expo was held in Suita City, Osaka Prefecture. The World Expo will be held in 2025.
