Chishakuin Temple

Introduction

Chishakuin Temple (’qΟ‰@:Chishaku-in) is a Head temple of the temple of Shingon sect Chisan-ha which is about 3000 in the whole country.
The beginning is said to be Gakuto Temple, which was built around the Period of the Northern and Southern Court.
Chishakuin Temple was built at the beginning of the Edo period in Shounji Temple ruins, which was erected in prayer for the fortune of Toyotomi Tsurumatsu, the eldest son of Toyotomi Hideyoshi.

 

Many national treasures and important cultural properties are held, including the national treasure "Tohaku HASEGAWA's wall paintings", which is said to be a masterpiece of Momoyama period.

Access

- From JR Kyoto Station, transfer to Kyoto municipal bus number 206 or 207 or 208 and get off at Higashiyama Shichijo bus stop.

 

- Get off at Keihan "Shichijo Station" and walk 10 minutes.
